Excellent piece, very nicely observed. The clichés you describe seem to be getting worse, with an increasing distance between how Hollywood sees the lives of normal people, and the realities of those lives. An example: the huge NYC, Chicago and LA apartments that we see lowly film journalists, detectives, researchers and corporate employees living in, compared to the shoeboxes they can barely afford in actual life.
