Interesting article. There seems to be an epidemic of "signalling," not just virtue signalling but identity signalling, lifestyle signalling, fitness signalling, and of course wealth signalling. The qualities of discretion and modesty - not just as a personal ethic but also as a way of not putting more disadvantaged people at unease by flashing your own advantages - seem totally lost, but it used to be a marker of class and good taste.
